Graphic design.

It has become clear to me throughout the year of studying the art foundation course at Manchester University that graphic design is the best suited course towards my skills and style, and I believe that I have the determination and enthusiasm to succeed on your course. The work I have decided to submit have been the projects which I have had a personal connection to, especially the project called the ‘big issue’ which I decided to address the issue of child abuse. For the child abuse project  I wanted to blend and layer together the background, image and text, as I didn’t want the design to be too easily read, however creating the viewer to examine the design and be slightly confused by the design, just like a child would be confused about being abused at such as young age. The text I choose for this project was a stencilled cut out of the word ‘lost’, relating to a child being ‘lost’ in an adult’s sin. There is an endless list of graphic designers who are inspirational to me, ranging from Neville Brody, Linn Olofsdotter to the more controversial designers such as Banksy. Whilst specialising in graphic design on the foundation course it has enlightened me on the great importance of typography within the world of graphic design, and how simple the style or shape of a text on a design could affect the purpose or aim trying to be given.
